Day 1 – Gemini Bridges / Golden Spike / Sovereign / Shake-down
“Shake-down” ride to start the trip revealed a clogged main jet on the KTM. A quick carburetor clean and we were good to go! Also, a blown bearing on the RZR was also diagnosed and fixed.
Golden Spike
Took a picture here a few years back on Josh‘s first trip with me to Moab. He is on his mission this year. Missed him – but he is do much more important work than riding around in the desert. 🙂
I saw a helicoption fly over me out on the Sovereign Trail single track trail. Shortly there after, I ran into a Search and Rescue team that was looking for a downed rider. I told them where the helicopter went and then we split up to find the rider.
Loading the injured rider. Great respect for Search and Rescue teams and the incredible work that they do.
Injured rider off to the hospital.
Dinner at the Moab Diner.
Grandpa caused quite a stir with his Broncos hat *and* Cowboys sweatshirt.
Day 2 – Hole-in-the-Rock
Our route.
Morning light. We’re headed South to take on the Hole-in-the-rock pioneer trail.
“You are here” – that is so helpful. I have always wondered where I am, now I know. I feel so much better now…
Pick one for the ride – the half-track might needs some minor work.
Washout in Lake Canyon.
End of the road – literally. Mother Nature and flash flood erosion showing their power.
No joke – the road was indeed closed by Mother Nature.
Pioneer tracks.
Drop off that may just leave-a-mark.
The sacred Navajo Mountain.
End of the Hole-in-the-Rock trail. The Pioneers came through the cut in the far distance, crossed the Colorado River (now Lake Powell) and came up through this canyon.
Trail end.
Day 3 – Hell’s Revenge / Fins / Sovereign
Hell’s Revenge.
Hell’s Revenge.
A quick human re-fuel at Milt’s.
Slickrock trail.
Sovereign Trail
S.T.
More S.T. – can you blame me? This trail is amazing.
Sundown
Day 4 – White Wash / Orange Trail / Green River / Sovereign
139 desert miles.
Forget it! Balloons are for birthday parties – let’s go ride to Rays for lunch.
White Wash dunes.
Prime parking spot at Rays for lunch.
Only a 122 mile round trip loop to get to Rays for lunch.
Moonscape
Just listed on MLS.
S.T.
Those were some really hard (but great) 139.6 miles.
Day 5 – Top of World / Rose Garden / Onion Creek
One of my favorite spots on the planet.
Top of the World (literally).
Rose Garden Hill – I didn’t see any roses, just rocks, ledges and boulders.
Rose Garden Hill – Fail. We waited, and waited (and filmed) while these two yahoos were trying to take a stocker 4Runner up RGH. Not going to happen. You can’t hear it, but you can see the front differential hit the big rock – ouch! We had to wait from them to get out of the way, so that we could come down.
RGH
Total miles for the week. No dirt-sampling, huck-a-bucks, or yard sales. I’d call that pretty good.
